The 2 seasons of Netflix’s animation series Arcane ( made by the French studio Fortiche ) is some of the very best animation work we’ve seen in recent years, be it on the big or small screen. The stunning visuals, from the spectacular environment to character/creature/prop designs and much more are now beautifully celebrated and showcased in this hardcover book. I was very pleasantly surprised upon receiving my copy of the book that it was much bigger in print size than I had imagined it, and the large format really shows off the art work to great effect. Another accolade I should give is the splendid layout that the designers of the book clearly spent considerable effort on; the art work and designs are presented like they are part of an elaborate and material rich scrapbook, adding to the enjoyment and immersion of the reading experience.

Did you just get your copy as well? It looks like they’re still sending it out to folks who pre-ordered it to make up for the demand. Agreed that it deserves a spot in the top art books of the year, I think it might be one of my favourites in this collection. I agree with everything you said about the size and the unique design choices playing with the graffiti/Jinx hallucination look. There is some fantastic artwork on display.
The only drawback in my mind is that individual artists aren’t listed, so I can’t reference the names of artists for particular pieces. (although yes, their names are all there in the form of the appendix credits) As this is pretty much standard with most art of books, it feels like a massive oversight.
But yeah, here’s to hoping Riot doesn’t botch things up with the series by trying to turn League into a cinematic universe. What the team did was make a truly unique contribution to the history of animation, rushed finale aside. I suppose we have Penelope of Sparta to look forward to! (same team, without the burden of an IP)
