Tekkon Kinkreet Shiro/Kuro Art Books Reprinted

Released back in 2006 to critical acclaim, Tekkon Kinkreet ( 鉄コン筋クリート ) is the anime adaptation of Matsumoto Taiyo’s 1993 manga of the same name. Produced by famed Japanese animation company Studio 4°C, one of the biggest highlights of the film are the stunning background art pieces painted by legendary art director Kimura Shinji and his team.

These background as well as concept art are collected in 2 hardcover art books titled Shiro (White) and Kuro (Black); , but they have been out of print and nigh impossible to get hold of, until now ! Japanese publisher Taiseisha will be reprinting these two books and they will be available from April 21st. Check out the cover art below –

It is unclear how many copies will be reprinted, so if you are interested in getting one I would recommend moving fast. You can pre-order from the links below –

If you want to preview the contents of both books, you can read my reviews for Shiro and Kuro that I’ve written many years ago.

I would also highly recommend the other background art books featuring the work of Kimura Shinji.

Do you know if the reprints are hardcover as well? Amazon Japan does no specify.

Unfortunately I do not have the reprinted edition so I cannot give any confirmation, but my best guess is that they are still hardcover as the prices are the same as the older edition ( and so downgrading it to soft cover would not be likely ). Again, it is just my guess !
