Tales Of Lady Snowblood is a spin-off manga based on the original Shurayuki-hime manga by the late Kazuo Koike, and illustrated by Kazuo Kamimura. The manga was adapted into the 1973 Japanese film starring Meiko Kaji as Lady Snowblood and was a huge inspiration for Tarantino when he was making the Kill Bill films.
Crying Freeman manga artist Ryoichi Ikegami takes over the illustration work for this spin-off, with the story again written by Kazuo Koike, who passed away in April 2019.
Readers of Crying Freeman will find the art work and visual style remarkably similar; with action scenes punctuated by the more than occasional nudity and violence. Ikegami’s art work is as expected, beautiful, although in my opinion he sometimes struggles when trying to depict movement.
(above & below) The manga comes with 2 mini foldout posters.
A beautifully illustrated manga featuring fantastic art work by Ryoichi Ikegami and one of Kazuo Koike’s last comic assignments. Fans of Crying Freeman and Lady Snowblood will want to pick this one up.
