Ribotake (リボタケ) is the abbreviated romaji name of Kaiyodo’s Revoltech series of figure line-up designed and sculpted by renowned Japanese character sculptor Takayuki Takeya; REVOltech + TAKEya.
This book showcases the entire line-up of figures designed and sculpted by Takeya, including the original character design sketches. The figures are based on the many heavenly deities found in Japanese/Chinese mythology and Buddhism.
Takeya’s original design sketches that the figures are modeled on, full of rich details. You can see more of his design work and drawings in his other art book. There’s also one he did for Kamen Riders.
A couple of small pictures found in the book gives a peek into Takeya’s messy and cluttered workspace – no doubt the conditions necessary for creating such amazing figures and designs. 😛
I’ve always been fascinated by the heavenly deities from Chinese/Japanese mythology ( Journey To The West comes to mind – the inspiration behind Dragonball and Terada’s Saiyukiden, among lots of others ), and with Takeya’s beautiful take on these characters the book was an easy buy for me. Folks who are interested to purchase these figures from Kaiyodo will be pleased to know that they are available on Amazon Japan as well.

Takayuki Takeya has some really great drawings. I wish he’d release more books. His drawings and design book released a couple of years ago was just fantastic!
