Simple Sketch Life Art Book Review

‘Simple Sketch Life’ is an instructional art book by Taiwanese urban sketcher and illustration teacher Mars Huang. First published in Taiwan, the popularity of the book has seen it been reprinted over 20 times, and now it is available in Japanese language as well.

The contents of the book are split across 7 different chapters, covering topics like the different pens and tools used for sketching, sketching methods to achieve beautiful line work, watercolor techniques, ways of framing/composition and more. Throughout the book the lessons are imparted using drawings and sketches done by the artist, serving as excellent teaching tools but the art work themselves are also delightful just to look at and appreciate on their own.

An enjoyable read from start to end, the beautiful sketches and illustrations by artist Mars Huang are a delight even if you don’t understand the written contents in Japanese. Recommended.
