Re-Child is a huge hard-cover art book showcasing the splendid fantasy art of Malaysian illustrator Zeen Chin. While the illustrations featured are the artist’s personal works, professionally Zeen also contribute to illustrations for mobile gamemaker Applibot, including titles like Legend Of The Cryptids and Galaxy Saga. Zeen’s art work are painted digitally.
In the book Zeen cites some of his early influences by Japanese manga artists like Akira Toriyama ( Dragonball ) and Katsuya Terada. Common motifs found in his art work include supernatural imps/goblins ( a nod to the popular Hong Kong zombie movies from 80/90s ), visual elements of Shintoism as well as female characters adorning costumes with strong influences by Japanese period fashion.
Zeen’s mastery over the media, his keen color sense and unique take on Asian folklore themes combine to create stunning illustrations that is quite simply, spectacular. I look forward to seeing more of his art work in the near future.
