The July 2016 issue of the Japanese visual arts magazine Geijutsu Shincho features famed manga artist/anime director Otomo Katsuhiro in a special interview. Otomo talks about Bande Dessinée ( “drawn strips” in French, a term commonly used to describe French comics ) and highlights several French comic artists that he likes; no prize for guessing who one of them might be.
The magazine also contains a brand new, 8 paged short manga by Otomo titled “Do bad robots go to hell when they break down ?”
This discussion with Otomo is timed with the Bande Dessinée ( Lourve No. 9 ) exhibition currently on tour in Japan, and the Tokyo leg is on till the 25th of September. I’ll be in Tokyo next month an am really excited to see this exhibition.
(above & below) Otomo talks about a few of the French comic artists that he likes, including Enki Bilal, Nicolas de Crécy, Carlos Nine (Argentinian) and of course the legendary Moebius.
(below) The new 4 paged comic panel by Otomo.
Definitely a must have for Otomo fans. :]
I also highly recommend the 2012 issue of Geijutsu Shincho featuring Otomo during his amazing Genga exhibition.
Disclaimer/Warning : Please note that the magazine contains only about 30 pages of Otomo related content. Also, this issue of the magazine contains nudity/erotic photography and is most certainly not suitable for children.
