Monster Land ( 怪物園 Kaibutsu En ) is a children’s picture book by Japanese illustrator Junaida. A giant moving house filled full of monsters encroaches upon a village, and the inhabitants flee and hide in their homes. Stuck indoors and unable to head out to play, the children dive into their own imaginary world, but what will happen when they meet the monsters there ?
I’ve been following the artist’s work for a few years now and have reviewed several of his other picture/art books including IHATOVO, IHATOVO 2, Nordic Tales, Home and I’M ME.
I’ve always enjoyed Junaida’s soothing and harmonious use of colors, and his wide vista drawings like the one above really shows off his aforementioned skills to great and wonderful effect.
Junaida drew Monster Land with children in mind, but the book’s beautiful illustrations can be enjoyed by all.
I also recommend checking out some of his other picture books Ihatovo (vol 1), Home and Nordic Tales. I’M ME is an excellent collection of his best illustration work, including commissioned pieces.
