Matsuo Hiromi (マツオヒロミ) is a Japanese illustrator with a penchant for “retro-modern” themes; often beautiful women adorned in lush, extravagant costumes. I first introduced his work in the June 2017 Illustration magazine.

His style of illustration, in particular the color palette and composition reminds me at times the work of Robert McGinnis. Matsuo Hiromi is himself a fan of Kamimura Kazuo and Italian artist Guido Crepax.

This book collects a good selection of illustrations handpicked by the artist, including 2 step by step, instructional chapters on the creation of his pieces.
