Sento Zukai (銭湯図解) is a delightfully illustrated book showcasing public Japanese bathhouses located in Tokyo, drawn by artist Enya Honami. Communal bathhouses have been on the decline in Japan as most residences now come with their own baths, but some still enjoy the spacious public baths and use it for relaxation.
A total of 24 bathhouses are featured in this book, and each cross-sectional drawing is meticulously illustrated and annotated with interesting background information about the uniqueness of every location.
(above) The dust jacket for the book folds out to become a mini poster with a gorgeous illustration.
The entire book is written in Japanese, but there is still much to like about the illustrations found in the book, and is a fantastic way to explore the unique designs of public bathhouses in Japan. Recommended.
