Bomb Bay is the eighth in the series of Intron Depot illustration art books by famed manga artist Shirow Masamune, creator of Ghost In The Shell. None of the art books in the series can best the first and original Intron Depot, in part due to Shirow’s unfortunate descent into garish digital and CG techniques.
This particular volume collects misc art work created between 1992 and 2009, and most of it is fluff except for the fantastic “old school Shirow” illustrations from his manga ( and subsequent anime adaptation ) of Dominion. This is the main reason why I purchased this book.
In my opinion the Dominion art work found in the book ( covering about half of the book’s contents ) is well worth the price of the book, which isn’t too pricey at around 2000 yen ( about 18 USD ).
For the best of his work, my pick is still the first and original Intron Depot art book. I also recommend Pieces Gem 02, featuring some of his older creations.

I could not agree more with the review.
Shirow’s work from Appleseed till the first Ghost in the shell manga are up there with the very best.
I have no love for his new work.
Might get this for the Dominion pages.
Yonghow- I would also recommend The Appleseed Illust&data book.
Great blog as always.

Great review!
‘Old school Shirow’ look all the way for me too, it’s so good. Really not a fan of the digital look he goes for now.
