The January 2021 issue of the Japanese art magazine Illustration Note ( イラストノート ) is a special feature on the famed Japanese illustrator/manga/concept artist Katsuya Terada. Terada is a highly prolific artist whose amazing portfolio runs the gamut from character design for animated films like Blood : The Last Vampire, the Monkey King manga series, as well as many art books, with collaborations with other renowned artists like Otomo, Kim JungGi and Sorayama. In recent years he has been taking up more and more live-stream drawing sessions with many of them happening in the United States.
This magazine highlights some of his latest illustration work as well as snapshots of his recent art exhibitions held across Japan and the USA.
(above right) Akira tribute art; Terada-san has collaborated with Otomo on numerous art books, including Oyaji and VIVA IL CICLISSIMO!.
Katsuya Terada’s elaborately detailed art work and sketches ( rakugaki ) never fail to impress, and all the illustrations he has showcased in his numerous art exhibitions must be enough to fill one, if not two decent sized art books, which I hope will come soon. In the meantime, this magazine will have to suffice. Highly recommended.
I also suggest checking out his splendid art book from 2019, Real Size.

I’m not the biggest fan of Mr. Terada, but due to his proximity to my idol Otomo I see a lot of his stuff.
Is that a new AKIRA tribute piece or was it in the book a few years back?
