Icon Of Europe is a series of pictorial art books by Japanese publisher PIE Books, this one focusing on European myths, fairy tales and legends. The contents run the gamut from Greek and Roman myths to Nordic and Celtic legends, as well as gothic horrors and fantasies in the last part of 19th century. The paintings featured is pretty expansive, with close to 300 pages of art work.
(image top right) The Lament of Icarus by Herbert James Draper. This painting is absolutely breathtaking, and I was very fortunate to have seen the original at an art exhibition in Yokohama, Japan in 2016. I could not take my eyes off it.
(image above) 2 paintings of The Lady Of Shalott by John William Waterhouse; the one of the right is quite possibly my fav painting of all times. Definitely check out his art book.
(above right) The incredibly moody art work of painter Gustave Doré.
This is a huge and handy depository of fantasy and mythology imagery that would certainly be of great resource value to anyone seeking visual ideas for fantasy art. Recommended.
I also suggest checking out the other art books in the series like The Art of Decadence: European Fantasy Art and Icons of Europe: The Story of Flower Art.
