The story of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy character finally comes to a close with the Hellboy in Hell arc, now fully collected in this beautiful hardcover library edition. This volume will sit perfectly with the previous six that came before it.
On top of the main concluding story, there is also a sizeable collection of Mike Mignola’s sketches; concept pieces and rough visual ideas created during the production of the comic, as well as a short story ( The Magician and The Snake ) that is a collaboration between Mignola and his daughter. Some raw art covers for the various Hellboy in Hell paperbacks are also included.
(above) Quite often Mignola utilizes panels that are entirely just images with no text or narrative to tell his story.
(above) A reproduction of the original black and white panel. A limited, special artist edition of Hellboy In Hell collecting a few chapters of these is available on Amazon.
The library editions are the absolute best way to read the Hellboy comics. The stately print size makes for easy reading of the text and also shows off Mignola’s stunning art work to great effect. This library edition for Hellboy in Hell is a fitting send off for one of recent comics’ most iconic characters and gets my highest recommendations.

Beautiful. I’m cursing myself for buying a TPB of “The Descent”, which you would probably know is the 1st half of the Hellboy in Hell story arc. Should’ve been more patient..
