One of the things I love most about the Ghostbusters films ? The brilliant ingenuity of the designs for the ghost catching hardware, namely the Proton packs and the ghost trap. After seeing the many photographs and concept art work of these props showcased in this book I just had to pick up a copy.
Ghostbusters Afterlife – The Art And Making Of The Film features a good mix of on-set and behind the scenes photographs as well as concept art pieces; on top of the many aforementioned proton pack designs and high quality pictures, there’s a whole lot more including Ecto 1, creature, character as well as set concept designs. There are also a few select panels of storyboards.
Accompanying the visuals are exclusive insights from key creatives, including writer/director Jason Reitman, producer Ivan Reitman, the production designer, cinematographer, costume designer, visual effects designer, and the special makeup & live action creature effects designer.
(above & below) Love the weathered and worn-out look of these proton packs; charred, singed and dinged-up from all the years of use. There are more pictures below, the unit that is attached to Ecto 1.
Ghostbusters is clearly a beloved film franchise with a huge following, and sequels inevitably get judged on their quality based on the original films. I prefer to enjoy them on their own merit, and there’s plenty to like in Afterlife. This hardcover volume is a great companion to the film and if you’re like me and enjoy the many prop designs found here, even better. Recommended.
