I really enjoyed Alita : Battle Angel, and I think it’s one of the more successful manga adaptations that Hollywood has embarked on in the recent years.
This art book explores the making of the film through an extensive collection of concept art including character, props, set and environment designs. There is a huge section dedicated to the cyborg designs of the characters that appear in the final Motorball race and is one of the highlights of the book for me.
Fans of the Yukito Kishiro’s original manga and the adapted film will certainly find plenty to like in this book; an excellent way to explore the stunning visual look and design that the filmmakers envisioned for this spectacular film.
I also highly recommend the Yukito Kishiro’s Ars Magna art book, featuring beautiful illustrations from the manga series that inspired James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez to make this film.

Been looking forward to your take on this. I picked it up right after seeing the film, and it’s just an amazing book. I was also pleased to see the designs from 2005 and compare/contrast them with the concept designs that appeared in the film.
And I also loved the movie–hope to see it again in the theaters, but if not, it’s a must-buy for Blu-Ray.

Marc – I definitely enjoyed the movie; it exceeded my expectations seeing how most manga adapted films have been lacklustre at best.
The visual effects by WETA is also quite astonishing . I can’t wait for it to be released on blu-ray so that I can enjoy it again.
