I LOOOVE beautiful landscape paintings; I’m pretty sure looking at them soothes the mind and is definitely therapeutic. With that in mind, this delightful volume by Japanese publisher PIE books is the perfect embodiment of those benefits, showcasing 366 landscape paintings, one for each day of the year and then some, featuring work from well known artists like Van Gogh, Renoir, Klimt, Monet and many, many more. As an art student I dare say I’ve studied and seen my fair share of landscape paintings, but most of the pieces collected in the book are still new to me, which is a pleasant surprise ( and a sobering indication of my ignorance as well ).
Feast your eyes ! These are just some of the pieces in the book that caught my attention the most and which I think offers a good representation of the many styles and movements of what you might expect to see ( watch my youtube flip-through video included below for a more comprehensive look of the paintings featured ).
Each featured painting is accompanied by a short write-up, but for those who do not read Japanese, know that the title and artist of the paintings are indicated in English as well, so you’ll still be able to do further research online for any piece that might interest you. The print size of the book isn’t the biggest, but understandable due to the huge volume of paintings that had to be covered ( 366 spread across 416 pages ). This is a most lovely read and gets my highest recommendations.
