100 Movies Of The 2010s is a pick of the 100 most influential films made in the decade of the 2010s by author and art/cinema historian Jürgen Müller. Just like the previous books in the same series, he begins with an essay on the cinematic zeitgeist of the period, in this case using Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood (2019) as a case study and over the course of the next 900 pages or so introduces us to his top films from 2011-2020, with about 10 titles from each year.
More of a art historian rather than a proper film critic, the author’s writings focus much more on the narrative and storytelling strengths and successes of each film, and with every reading I am not only more interested to watch the movies discussed but at the same time gain valuable insights into the filmmakers vision for their painstakingly crafted motion picture.
Each featured film entry is accompanied by production photos, a synopsis, analysis, and movie-buff trivia, as well as cast, crew, and technical listings.
I love Jürgen Müller’s series of books on cinema, and have all the titles from his “Movies of the 70/80/90s” published by Taschen. His writing is both insightful and educational, and most importantly of all makes me want to watch the films mentioned. My exposure to movies has increased considerably after reading his books.
This volume is an excellent resource for film-lovers, and it give my highest recommendations.
