Some pictures of the recently released Nadia : The Secret of Blue Water – The Complete Series blu-ray set produced by Japanese animation studio Gainax. I’ve always wanted to pick this series up on blu-ray but the Japanese edition is just ridiculously expensive, so this edition by GKIDS is perfect, especially when it is also remastered on 4K and looks really splendid.
Many of the core creative personnel behind Evangelion worked on the series, including director Hideaki Anno and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who also illustrated the cover art for this blu-ray set. Another notable artist who worked on the series is the extraordinary Tatsuyuki Tanaka, who did some image boards; these can be found in his art book Cannabis Works.
The 39 episodes are spread across 5 blu-ray discs, and the set also comes with a 20 page booklet showcasing some select character and machine designs.
While I’m not knowledgeable enough to write a tech review of the visual quality, I can definitely say it is the highest fidelity version of the series I have ever seen, given that it is a 4K remaster. The affordable price point is also a plus; the other only alternative is the exorbitantly priced Japanese edition ( which is just regular HD quality and as far as I know, not from a 4K remaster ).
I also highly recommend the Return Of Nadia Genga Collection art book, with some truly fantastic genga ( key animation drawings ) from the series.
Nadia : The Secret of Blue Water 4K Remastered Blu-ray Complete Collection details :
– Runtime – 16 hours and 21 minutes
– Japanese/English audio with English subtitles
– 5 discs, Blu-ray NTSC

I own the Sentai 1080p remaster of Nadia that was released a number of years ago. Definitely a must-see for any Gainax fan (which I am).
