Some pictures of the Godzilla Minus One deluxe 4K blu-ray boxset ( Japanese edition ) that I picked up recently.

Because of the exorbitant pricing of Japanese physical media releases, I had all but given up hope that I’ll be able to afford this edition and was planning to get the more barebones US release. However, as luck would have it, this box-set was then heavily discounted during Amazon Japan’s Black Friday sales, and so I swooped in quickly and picked it up for 5200 yen, or about 35 USD. It’s a really good deal, I think !

This deluxe edition is a 4 disc set, comprising of 1) a 4K UHD presentation of the feature film, 2) a regular SD blu-ray presentation, 3) a regular SD blu-ray Black & White version of the film ‘Godzilla Minus Color’, and 4) a regular SD blu-ray with making of supplements.

There are also 2 small booklets included; one is a reproduction of the masterplan for the Freon gas stratagem for destroying Godzilla in the film’s third act, and the other a collection of film posters and stills.

I’ve been really busy at work and so have only managed to watch the film presentation itself on 4K; and the video quality is excellent as can be expected. I’ll update this post again with more details when I have the opportunity to watch both Godzilla Minus Color as well as the making of features. I believe there is a considerable wealth of on-set photography and VFX ( visual effects ) making of features included on the 4th disc.

A note of caveat for those who might be interested in picking up this box-set; because it is a Japanese release aimed mostly for the domestic market, there are no English subtitles for both the film presentations nor the making of features, so a decent / good command of the Japanese language will be required to fully enjoy the contents of this otherwise excellent release.

This is one of two Godzilla Minus One merchandise that were on my wishlist; the other one is the huge making of book ( see my earlier post here ) which I am still saving up for, and hopefully will be able to afford hopefully in the not too distant future, before it goes out of print !
