Louvre No.9 was a comics art exhibition held at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi, Tokyo from July to September 2016, showcasing the very best of Bande Dessinée ( French comics ), featuring artists like Nicolas de Crecy and Enki Bilal, as well as several prominent Japanese manga artists paying tribute to the art form, including Jiro Taniguchi, Taiyo Matsumoto and Katsuya Terada.
The exhibition venue was actually right beside the equally excellent Ghibli Expo.
Photography was allowed only in certain areas of the exhibition, including some preview panels of each artist’s submission ( image above ), as well as the elaborately decorated entrance ( image below ).
(above) A high quality reprint of one of Katsuya Terada’s submissions to the exhibition. ( below ) Some book previews of the catalogue that was on sale at the exhibition, which contains all the art work presented.
Availability : The catalogue is currently only on sale at the exhibition venues. I will post the Amazon purchase link should it become available at a later date.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the Japanese magazine Bijutsu Techo ( Art Diary ) has a special issue dedicated to Bande Dessinée, which features art work from the participating artists.
The Tokyo leg of the exhibition has ended and has now moved on to Osaka at the time of writing. Check out the official website for more details on future exhibition venues.
