Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was a 20th-century American painter/illustrator, most renowned for his art work depicting mundane, everyday life scenarios that are reflections of American culture. This giant book reproduces more than 300 of the illustration covers he painted for the magazine Saturday Evening Post.
I’ve always enjoyed Norman Rockwell’s work, but my interest in him piqued again after listening to a talk “The Art Of Seeing” by ILM VFX legend Dennis Muren, where he used several of Rockwell’s paintings as examples of the artist’s attention to detail and performance.
Each individual art work is presented on a full page and the huge size of the book ( 13.2 x 11.3 inches ) really brings out the details and make for great viewing.
(above) A handy list of footnotes for each of the illustrations is found at the end of the book.
The sheer volume of art work collected in this book is good enough reason to get the book, and the giant prints, all beautifully reproduced gives it more value still. Great for just appreciation, but visual artists will also find the book as an excellent source of study for posing, composition and performance. Highly recommended.
