Gustave Caillebotte ( 1848-1894 ) was a French painter and member of the artists known as the Impressionists, although he very often painted in a style more akin to that of Realism. Many of his works display a strong sense of depth and perspective, and Caillebotte showed early interest in photography as an art form.
This art book ( actually a catalogue for the exhibition of the same name held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C, 2015 ) features a comprehensive collection of Caillebotte’s paintings with 177 illustrations.
I enjoy Caillebotte’s style of painting, a kind of fusion between Impressionism and Realism, and his subtle palette which at times remind me of Edward Hopper’s work. Recommended.
