Fans of Shirow Masamune’s groundbreaking Ghost In The Shell manga certainly have a lot to smile about recently with the recent launch of his genga exhibition taking place in Tokyo, and now with the announcement of a new anime series by animation studio Science SARU. Check out the teaser trailer below –
While the teaser doesn’t actually offer up any actual footage of completed or work-in-progress animation, the poster for the series has generated quite a big buzz online because of the titular character Motoko Kusanagi/The Major’s design, which seems very faithful to the original look of Shirow Masamune’s manga.
While I am not familiar with any of the key creative personnel that will be helming the project, the involvement of animation studio Science SARU certainly gives me great confidence, having created such amazing series and films previously like Devilman Crybaby, Eizouken and Inu-oh, all of which I enjoyed immensely.
The Ghost In The Shell is slated for a 2026 release, and I await it with high expectations ! You can follow the official Ghost In The Shell twitter account for more updates.
