Back in 1971, anime directors Isao Takahata, Miyazaki Hayao and Yoichi Kotabe collaborated on a project proposal to create an anime series for Astrid Lindgren’s Pipi Longstockings. The creative trio travelled to Sweden for research and also met up with Astrid for a discussion on the project.
It was unfortunate that they were unable to get the blessings from Astrid to proceed with production, and the project was eventually cancelled, but the huge amount of beautiful concept art and image boards by Miyazaki Hayao can still be admired in this art book, aptly titled The Dream Of Pipi Longstockings.
A failed bid for an anime project that could have been amazing, but nontheless Miyazaki Hayao’s watercolor illustrations are always a beauty to behold and this comes highly recommended.

Have you tried placing a wide sheet of glass over your books so that you can photograph them easier? It’ll also create less shadow in the gutter of the book.

thanks for sharing this awesome book, loved reading Pipi as a kid. re: glass, be careful as you can damage the binding when lying flat, on your very valuable, precious collectors book.

cyn – you’re welcome ! Yeah about the glass thing the damaging the spine was one of my concerns too. and also the reflections in the glass might be an issue when taking picture, so i’ve yet to put this into action yet. :]
