I loved the Patlabor TV series ! If I had wads of cash I would snatch up the Blu-ray collection immediately.
While the animated films by Mamoru Oshii ( in particular Patlabor II ) are some of the best animated films of the 90s, and one of my favourite anime, it also lost the humor and comedic touch of the original TV series, in the same way the Ghost In The Shell film is different from Shirow’s original manga.
This “Perfect Establishment Data” book is a very comprehensive collection of the mecha, character and set data sheets for the entire TV series. Really, there’s alot of stuff packed into these 216 pages.
(above and below) The Phantom and Griffon Labors, both of which proved more than a worthy adversary for the Ingram.
(above and below) Lots and lots of character data sheets. Character design by the great Takada Akemi; fans of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku should definitely recognize her work.
Fans of Patlabor should definitely consider picking this up. Highly recommended.

awesome series, and a very cool looking book. i also think that the second movie was my favorite and definitely one of the best of it’s era. if i am correct, i believe Satoshi Kon had a hand in that film as well? maybe something do do with the backgrounds or something?

Zack – You’re right; he worked on the layout boards for Patlabor 2. :]

Yay – i bought this from Mandarake fukuoka the last time i was in japan 🙂
I also got the other one from the OVA. The movie ones are great too – had those years ago. Best mecha designs ever – so ‘feasible’, rather than fanciful.
