This thick ( 576 pages ) volume houses the full storyboards for Miyazaki Hayao’s Ghibli animated film Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind, illustrated by the director himself. More than just a vital production resource for animators, Miyazaki’s superbly detailed and beautiful storyboards are a veritable work of art.
(below) A quick guide at the start of the book instructs readers on the basics of how to read the storyboards.
The drawings are so detailed that one can easily mistake them for drawings from the original Nausicaa manga.
When talking about Nausicaa it is hard not to mention The Journey Of Shuna, a relatively unknown but beautiful watercolor manga by Miyazaki-san that looks like a cross between Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke.
Gorgeously illustrated storyboards from a Ghibli masterpiece. This gets my highest recommendations.
Also be sure to check out Miyazaki’s collection of Nausicaa watercolor illustrations.
