A trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Hiroyuki Okiura’s highly acclaimed anime Jin-roh has just been released. Check it out below –
The live-action adaptation is directed by Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon (The Good, the Bad, the Weird, A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, Age Of Shadows ), of whom I am a big fan of, especially his film A Tale Of Two Sisters. South Korea has proven itself to be a filmmaking powerhouse ( especially for the past 20 years or so ), and I hope this movie will be a worthy adaption to the original.
I first saw the original Jin-roh anime way back in 1998 when I was still an animation student learning the ropes, and it left a huge impression on me. Many years later when I was working in the animation industry in Tokyo I met some of the artists who worked on the film, including Nagise Abe, who worked as a color designer. Obviously I had to get her signature on my Jin-roh dvd boxset. ( image below )
I also highly recommend the two Jin-roh art books ( Jin-roh Maniaxx, The Art Of Jin-roh : Behind The Screen ) that have been released, both of which showcase the amazing artwork behind the film.
The live-action Jin-roh film is slated for a Korean domestic release in July 2018.
