Tatsuyuki Tanaka’s Animated Opening For Japacon TV

Posted By yonghow on April 11th, 2012

Tatsuyuki Tanaka animates a beautiful opening sequence for BSFUJI’s program Japancon TV, here are some screen caps from the video :

If you are new or unfamiliar with Tanaka-san’s work he’s a veteran animator/concept artist/illustrator/genius who animated Tetsuo’s mutation sequence in Otomo’s masterpiece Akira, and also the artist behind the beautiful art book Cannabis Works, (read the book review here) amongst other cool stuff.

I was unable to find the video on Youtube to embed on this post, so head down to Catsuka’s page to view it in HD.

A big thanks to Catsuka for the heads up !

Feels like everything is painted in watercolor: very beautiful work here.
But so much work for BIG COMP promotion purposes and not enough for oneself. Just like 70% of visual media is for advertising something else and only 30% is of actual, solid content.

Wow those illustrations are really good.

Really, I love Tatsuyuki’s style!
I’m amazed how these artists can make such smooth movements with so detailed drawings.
I know it’s a matter of years of practice, but I would need at least 30 years to be just near his level.
Seriously, some amazing works really depresses me because of that :<

Rey

Yep, those are fantastic like usual.
Wish I had a teacher like him!

I’ve known Tastuyuki for quiet some time now. AND I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE THAT HE CAME OUT WITH SOMETHING NEW! Now the thing is I want to get my hands on this video.

So is this just a preview? or did it already come out? I WOULD REALLY, REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE A REPLY FROM ANYONE TO NOTIFY ME PLEASE!

I’M DEADLY EAGER TO FIND OUT WHERE I CAN BUY IT! I will post a comment here every morning and everynight for all the days to come until I get an answer.

PLEASE ANYONE! I simply need art in my life I need this movie in my life.

G

I’m writing this email in hopes that someone might know where I can buy this film.

Thank you.

G

Any new news about this video guys?

Matt

Like it says above, it’s not a film. It’s just an opening for a TV program. The video in the link he listed is it.

And, if it’s a matter of downloading the video, you can do so with an add-on like DownloadHelper for Firefox.

@Rafael Pizzo
There is nothing to get depressed about. Tanaka has been in the animation industry for since 1980’s. You’ll find your own expression eventually. Be patient.

@G
Begging won’t help much. You gotta do some research on your own. Tanaka has his own website and be sure to dig around Twitter. Most Japanese animators have Twitter account. Copy & Paste method always worked on me.

G

I have done research on my own. Its just difficult to find these types of people.

I’ll try twitter, I hope Tastuyuki knows english.

Does anyone know where to find contact info for this project?

I am working on a project that may help them with more exposure

His Canabis works is one of the best 2 or 3 purchases I’ve ever made at SDCC

There were plans to release another art book called “Boiled Head”, but it was cancelled by the publisher for reasons unknown ( to me ). Bummer. Hopefully another one in the near future.
