HyperBole! is an exhilarating and superbly crafted CG animated short by filmmaker/VFX artist Ian Hubert that pays homage to the podracing sequence of Stars Wars : The Phantom Menace as well as the flying machines chase sequences as seen in Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira manga and animated film. Check it out below –
I’m really impressed by the incredible amount of photo-realistic detail crafted into all the shots, from modeling, texturing to lighting, sims and animation; the cinematography is fantastic as well. This would be the kind of personal project I would love to tackle if I actually had some free time to do so; though I’m not professing I have the skills required to pull off such a feat.

I haven’t done a lick of 3D modeling in my life, so the amount of work and time that went into this I can’t fathom. I mean it could be not as much as I think, being a layman, but it surely is tons.

Chris – I haven’t done much modeling since my student days too, and although the tools available today allow for much more complexity in the modeled objects, it’s still a lot of hard work indeed.
