Freedom Nissin Cup Noodles poster ads Fall edition, Part 2

Posted By yonghow on December 10th, 2007

With Freedom nearing its climatic episode(s) soon Nissin is pulling all the stops and selling its noodles hard. ( The last time I heard Freedom dvds are selling as many units as the legendary Haruhi, though I wonder if that’s possible. In any case, dvd sales are pretty brisk.)

With the design for these promotional posters completed Nissin launched a Tokyo wide advertising campaign for Freedom, the biggest in scale since the project’s launch in April 2006. (below)

Freedom ads in JR Shinjuku station during its launch in April 2006.

The latest Freedom ads in some of Tokyo’s busiest stations JR Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya.

Nissin also arranged tie-ups with various popular publications like R25 ( a job search magazine ) and websites like Yahoo Japan to engage in the discussion topic “What is Freedom…to you ?”

(above) The same posters on display in the studio. While I would very much like to own the full collection of designs I wonder when and where I can ever find enough wall space to display all of them, with each poster measuring about 1 x 1.5 metres across.

tragic comedy

who would have imagined that an instant noodle company could become so big?

it would be interesting to have advertising campaigns of this calibre here. sadly the MRTs and buses all have blank spots because their fees are too high for advertising (read: profiteering)

I bet it’s fun to see those plastered all over Tokyo after having labored over the designs in the studio. ^^

As always, great photos.

Kasumi

So many white + red advertisements.
@.@

Anxious for the release of the next installment of Freedom.

Having a Nissin Cup Noodle in the office right now. Stole it from my colleague’s drawer. It’s a life saver….

tragic comedy – This campaign was possible here largely because :

1) Nissin ( cup noodles ) is very popular in Japan.
2) Anime is massively popular in Japan.

Probably won’t work as well ( in terms of returns ) in Singapore, so no one does it.

orion – :] Its a nice feeling, yep.

kasumui – Soon ! :p

CMWilly – The photographs in the train stations weren’t taken by me. I guess the folks from Nissin got permission from the transport company to enter after or before service hours.

Zero – That’s Freedom for you. :p

Wow, it must be really gratifying working hard on it, and then finding out it is selling as many DVDs as haruhi! It must be even more rewarding finding these ads plastered all over shinjuku station!

Congrats 😀

Lss

didnt they invent cup noodles in the first place. of course they got big.

used to sell nissin cup noodles when i was in the army not cheap but everyone likes it.

Lss

fartboystinks

WoW … that is some crazy advertisment campaign going on

yonghow

AndyH – Thanks for the compliments ! :] How’s work ?

Lss – There’s a Chilli Crab flavored noodle ? I gotta try that one !

This rocks… wel, I wouldn’t completely blank out the possibility of such a large scale campaign working in Singapore. I mean… I can really see people getting bored with the same kind of messages around. This is pretty refreshing! I guess it boils down to the brand owners + creatives to really make it happen! :-)) Again… where can I get my hands on these Freedom collaterals, I’m not greedy one… even just one small poster will do… sob..sob… 🙂

I’d have to say the best Nissin Cup Noodle ever was Spicy Duck. That was yumz, but they don’t make it anymore, sadly 🙁

Hmm… “What is Freedom to you?” interesting question that could be useful for contests 🙂

btw yonghow, finally got the library blog up after weeks of toiling (^^;) will keep you posted when I’m able to run my Freedom-related article(s)!

yonghow

pk – thanks for the update ! I’ll be sure to check it out ! :]
