The talented folks from Square Enix continue to impress me with every new iteration of the Final Fantasy series, refining and improving on their cast of CG characters to ever higher levels of visual sublimity.
(above and below) Lightning, the core character of FF XIII. It should be clear by now that no character in the Final Fantasy universe ever suffer from a bad hair day.
(above) CG eye candy -that’s some pretty awesome rendering going on there. While striving for photorealism the artists at Square Enix have always maintained a distinct, stylized look to their characters, the “FF touch”, if you may. Its also a great way to avoid the uncanny valley, I think.
Any folks out there played the game yet ? Is it any good ?

FF 13 IS AN UTTERLY PERFECT HIGH ART MASTERPIECE GIFTED FROM THE GODS. EVERY FACET OF THE ART DIRECTION & STLYE IS INCREDIBLE. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, ALL THE ENVIRONMENTS, & THE CONCEPTS LIKE THE FAL’CIE, COCOOON, PULSE ETC. THIS IS THE 1ST FF SINCE FF 7 WHERE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT (I DO WISH THERE WERE TOWNS THOUGH). THE CRYSTAL TOOLS TECH IS ALSO UTTERLY MIND-BLOWING. I’M SINMPLY SALVATING FOR FF VERSUS 13….

FFXIII’s combat and pacing is a lot different than the other recent games in the series. The combat is a lot faster and more fluid, and feels like a smoother version of the FFVII combat system (imo).
Either way, those are some great looking post cards, but it would have been nice if there were some illustrations from Yoshitaka Amano, for nostalgia’s sake. 🙂

I find that Amano`s designs really imbue FF with a one of a kind feel, that Nomura cannot reach.
Nomura`s designs are very appeal, but they just seem cookie cutter.
They don`t flare up with a certain style or character as Amano does.

VISUALLY THE GAME IT´S MIND BLOWING AND BEAUTIFUL, the direction, the combat system, gameplay, etc. The story so far it´s beliavable and good enough to keep you interested, i had great expectations because Yosinori Kitase is involved, and definitely it´s worth every moment so far.
But honestly, in many ways, it could have been epic, and it wasn´t.
But, every FF i´m fist in line.
Nice set of postcards! 😀

Fauna – Well, I won’t refuse a nice artbook either ! :]
Daniel – Perhaps we’ll see that in the artbook, was he involved in this latest version ?
zs – Haha, I’m don’t know enough about FF to agree or disagree, but either case they both look pretty darn good to me. :]
rulascalaca – Gotta find out who Yoshinori Kitase is…

I’m not sure if he was involved. Shinjuku, a book he illustrated, was just released here in America, so he may have been solely focusing on that.
