Fashion photographer Ninagawa Mika shoots Japanese female celebrities, singers and “tarento” in her hallmark style of vibrant, explosive colors in the pictorial titled Ninagawa Woman. (She has since published a 2nd volume featuring a different group of female actresses.)

(above right) Actress Rinko Kikuchi, who found international fame after her role in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Babel. She will next be seen battling Kaijus in Del Toro’s Pacific Rim. (below) Miho Nakayama, who played the lead role in my favourite Japanese film Love Letter.

Ninagawa-san has also ventured into film-making and I highly enjoyed her debut film Sakuran, a rich exposition of the most dizzying colorful Kimonos you’ll ever see, starring actress Kimura Yoshino. ( image below ) I highly recommend it.

I’ve yet to see her new film Helter Skelter and hope to do so soon. Do let me know your thoughts if you’ve already seen it.
