Slam Dunk is a hugely popular manga by Vagabond artist Takehiko Inoue, first published in 1990. A new edition of the manga was released last year, featuring 20 brand new cover art illustrations by the artist. It is quite common in Japan for popular comic series to release new editions every now and then to re-energize the title and bring in new readership.

The new edition was launched with quite a bit of fanfare last year, with big billboards put up at the busy Shibuya crossing –

By the way, Takehiko Inoue is currently working on a brand new art Slam Dunk art book which will be out in April next year, and will likely include these illustrations. I’ll certainly be getting a copy for review here, so look out for it.
