Atom: The Beginning (アトム ザ・ビギニング) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tetsuro Kasahara (カサハラテツロー), with writing contributions by Makoto Tezuka and Masami Yuki ( Patlabor ). The series is a prequel to Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy manga series, depicting the events up until the birth of Astro Boy.

I really dig the visual style of these cover illustrations by Tetsuro Kasahara, which brings to mind Yukito Kishiro’s ( Battle Angel Alita ) art work, both of whom seem to be influenced by the legendary Moebius.

I’ve yet to read Atom : The Beginning, but perhaps it’s time I start; has anyone read it and what are your thoughts ?

Also, Tetsuro Kasahara has an upcoming art book slated for release on the 25th June 2021, and I’m really hoping some, if not all of these illustrations will be included in the art book. I’ll likely be picking up a copy for review, so stay tuned.
