“Future” is a collection of art work by manga artist Tsuruta Kenji, featuring illustrations from the the Japanese adaptation of the sci-fi novel Captain Future, published way back in 1966. The original Captain Future was a very popular pulp character originally published in self-titled American pulp magazines during the 1940s and early 50s, and an anime adaptation was also created in 1979.
I find the watercolour illustrations quaintly attractive, with strong visual themes from early sci-fiction during the 60/70s. Sophisticated as they are the look of sci-fiction films today are more or less the same.
Tsuruta Kenji is also known for his manga work “Spirit Of Wonder” (published by Dark Horse Comics in the States), but I’ve not yet read it. Is it as good as they say ? His more recent work include Omoide Emanon and Forget Me Not.

Thank you for the review, I always wondered if this artist had a book around.
Spirit of Wonder is kind of solid. I personally wasn´t very impressed with the story, but the drawings are very charming and reading flow is also ok.
More than “Lady of Pharis” anyway, but I guess thats just how it is, good draftmen aren´t automaticly good storytellers.

I’ve never actually gave Lady Of Pharis a serious read, mostly just admiring his art work haha.
