The Royal Tenenbaums Criterion Blu-ray

Posted By yonghow on September 2nd, 2012

Criterion surely gave Wes Anderson fans a treat with their recent release of the director’s much adored film The Royal Tenenbaums. It’s still my favourite Anderson film, with Fantastic Mr Fox and Moonrise Kingdom close behind.

(above) The blu-ray comes with 2 inserts, the one on the left feature a collection of concept art and illustrations drawn by Eric Chase Anderson ( Wes Anderson’s brother ). Delightful stuff, really. The insert on the right is an essay by film critic Kent Jones.

The extras on the blu-ray disc itself include several enlightening but not exhaustive interviews with key cast members, “Making of” documentary shot on set/interviews with the director, The Peter Bradley Show, and more. I only wished there were more material on the cinematography of Robert Yeoman and his shooting approach for the film, as well as the art direction/production design.

All in all, still an excellent package. I can’t recommend this highly enough.
