Spiderman : Far From Home – Giant Elemental VFX Breakdown

Spiderman : Far From Home has been nominated for a VES ( Visual Effects Society ) award – Outstanding Effects Simulations in a Photoreal Feature, and Sony Imageworks just released this excellent VFX breakdown video showcasing behind the scenes on how the Giant Elemental creature was created. Check it out below :

I worked on lighting for two of the shots featured in the video – one of Mysterio blasting the Elemental creature on the face, as well as the creature trying to crush Mysterio with his hands. I reckon I had to light and render over 30 separate elements of rocks, ash, water, sprays, embers and more that were required to create the Elemental creature. It was alot of painstaking work, but I really like how the shots turned out in the finished film.

I also worked on a couple of these Mysterio droid shots that required CG renders of the london tower bridge and walkway, Mysterio’s helmet and plenty of droids –

There is also a shot break-down of the work I did on one of the Elemental shots at the excellent Befores And Afters website.

I also highly recommend checking out the art of book for the film, which has a ton of amazing concept created during pre-production.
