In this short making of video for Marvel’s recent Spiderman : Homecoming film my VFX supervisor at Sony Imageworks ( Theo Bialek ) talks about the challenges of animating the iconic comic character and also the creation of a photo-realistic Spiderman. The turntable “test footage” featuring a fully CG Tom in his homemade suit is certainly impressive and I myself had a hard time believing it wasn’t actual video footage when I first saw it.

I lit a bunch of the warehouse shots where Peter performed evasive maneuvers as the Vulture tried to cut him down, as well as the shot of him perched on the billboard edge spreading his wings.
