Animals Real And Imagined is a richly illustrated menagerie of fantastical creatures by Terryl Whitlatch, a scientific and academically trained illustrator who extensively studied vertebrate zoology and animal anatomy.

Besides working for various zoos and museums in the US and The World Wildlife Fund as a senior consultant, Terryl’s expansive career also include artistic contributions on films like Jumanji, Star Wars Phantom Menace, Man In Black, Beowulf and more.

I find the pencil/B&W sketches to be particularly fascinating because of the intricate drawings and annotations. This is a great book to have on hand both for reference and inspiration when designing and drawing animals and creatures. Highly recommended.
