Arthur Rackham ( 1867 – 1939 ) was an English book illustrator, widely regarded as one of the leading illustrators from the ‘Golden Age’ of British book illustration, which encompassed the years from 1900 until the start of WWI.

His illustrations often feature subjects and stories from fairy tales by writers like Lewis Carroll, Brothers Grimm, as well as Norse Mythology and Arthurian Legend. This book is a collection of his life’s work, spanning 200 pages with over 150 pieces of art work.

Arthur Rackham’s distinctive style left its mark on many future artists – the look of Disney’s animated feature Snow White was highly influenced by the Rackham’s watercolor illustrations.

Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro also mention Rackham as an influence on the design of “The Faun” in his film Pan’s Labyrinth – check out Del Toro’s “Cabinet Of Curiosities” sketch/art book.

Arthur Rackham’s own visual style was informed and influenced by Nordic art work, as well as Japanese woodblock prints, like those by Hokusai.
