Obsolete - Youtube Originals Mecha Anime Series

Obsolete is a new mecha anime series developed for Youtube Originals channel by Bandai Namco Arts, with production handled by Buemon. Check out the trailer below –

The synopsis for the anime is as follows –

“In 2014, aliens revealed themselves to request trade with humanity. In exchange for limestone, they would provide a consciousness-controlled general-use robot known as an “Exoframe.” Cheaper than an aircraft, tank, or firearm, and easy enough for anyone to operate, the “Exoframe” spreads change throughout the world in the blink of an eye…”

The CG studio behind the anime is Buemon, and is actually made up of staff from the old Sunrise Studios Ogikubo (Nerima), where I worked on Freedom. Some of my former colleagues are still working there today, including the Gundam manga artist Yoshihiro Sono, which is handling “art setting” on this series.

The overall quality of the CG looks pretty good from what I see in the trailer, and I hope to watch the series when I have the opportunity. Obsolete will start streaming on Youtube Originals from 3rd December 2019.
