Jin-roh Maniaxx is one of the two art books published for Hiroyuki Okiura’s Wolf Brigade film, the other one been Jin-roh – Behind The Screen.

“Art of” books for anime films seldom get more than one publisher, but that’s nothing to complain about since I love this film so much.

There are some overlapping content between both books but in general Jin-roh Maniaxx features more colored art work, including some select background plates ( further below ), and the print quality for the pencil drawing reproductions are better than the other book.

(above & below) Some select pages of study on the layout for the film, with screencaps from the film for comparison. Layout is such an important discipline in animation and Ghibli Studios paid tribute to it with this amazing layout exhibition in 2008.

Jin-roh is an amazing film and I rank it as one of my favourites, right up there with Akira, GITS & Mononoke Hime. This book is out of print and kinda hard to track down these days ( Amazon marketplace links below ) so if you find one in a 2nd book store in Tokyo don’t hesitate.
