AWAKEN AKIRA is a short video created by Ash Thorp and Zaoeyo as a tribute to Otomo Katsuhiro’s original groundbreaking anime film. The duo re-creates some of the most iconic and memorable scenes from the film, beautifully realized in CG. Check it out below –

Ash Thorp is also the creative force behind the Ghost In The Shell tribute video Project 2501, and was himself part of the concept art team for the 2017 live-action remake.

AWAKEN AKIRA is a great proof of concept for a potential live-action remake, and I think we’ve established the fact that there are more than enough talented artists out there to do justice to Otomo’s work, at least for the quality of the visuals.
